Ah, that's how it's supposed to be... I've now hacked my way through by adding 
the path explicitly  to FindSimGear.cmake and finally the compilation ran 
through - well, I somehow had to set the path to libXmu explicitly, which 
caused weird problems down the line - I'll erase and redo it as you suggest 
later then. But I guess I'm getting there in the end.
