That card has no T&L setup (only GeForce cards do have it). So it's
guaranteed that you'll have "bad" performance.

No specific software? Hm, I don't know if Red Hat includes the nVidia
drivers (SuSE doesn't, but offers you to download them as there are
copyright problems otherwise). But if you don't have drivers you aren't
even using the 3D acceleration of that card and thus you'll get *very*
bad performance (actually FGFS is virtaully unusable w/o 3D
acceleration)

Linux uses all the RAM that's unused for disk cachnig. But that's
dynamical, so you don't need to worry about that. Most users get
confused by that.

Have a look at my router:

cm@p100:~> free
             total   used    free  shared  buffers  cached
Mem:         37904  35672    2232       0     2144    9224
-/+ buffers/cache:  24304   13600
Swap:       130748  19384  111364

The correct answer of how much RAM ist left would be "13600" and not, as
most would think, "2232".
