This is a typo in the manual (cut/paste) which I know of. It will be
corrected in the next version (hopefully to be out sometime in spring).
Otherweise the problem is that very recent Cygwin installations obviously
modified the search path for the compiler. Do as Richard suggested.
Curt et al.: Can't we have /usr/local/lib included in the configure scripts
just for Cygwin users by default? I foresee a growing number of complaints
emerging on this.
