There's a small secret that relates to this.  The terragear tools
flatten lakes and pull the edge nodes down to water "level".  So most
of the time, lakes and streams do look like they fit there perfectly
(even if they might not quite ... especially vmap0 data can be off by
a noticable amount relative to the SRTM data.
