Thanks for your replies. I have done as suggested, even deleted and reinstalled the source trees of plib, SimGear and FlightGear to make absolutely sure I get fresh Makefiles. Still, I get the exact same error... I don't know how to proceed from here. Is there anything else I can do? Although I have used Linux for quite a few years and get along fairly well, I don't know if I could just throw out gcc-2.96 and install a 3.x (or 2.95) version without breaking anything?
