I am still working on a Windows only CD for the, uh, less technically inclined. Don't take that wrong, but many folks are just interested in flying, not computers and could care less about the technicalities behind it.
The last hurdle is to come up with a front end to install scenery files, i.e. to extract and place in the right directory. Any suggestions?
No laughing please. :-)

FlightGear is on the CD. :-) This includes a precompiled windows exe, all the program textures and models and other data needed to run, plus quite a bit of scenery from the USA. Also included is the entire source code.
Is it for Nix, Win etc?
For windows people, you can just pop the cd in, click on the runfgfs.bat, and FG should come up running. Unix people can take the included source code and compile their own running version. (Often there are prebuilt packages for the various unix flavors, but these packages aren't on the cd.)
Is it the image of the CD available for purchase?
FlightGear is a free open-source project, so you can always download everything for free from the flightgear web site. However, if you want to save the download time, or like to have things on cd, you can purchase a copy of FlightGear on CD from here:
