Thanks Al and Phillip for your replies.

Al, it's nice to know how your stick is behaving, now I'll really know if i've done it right when all the buttons actually do something.

Something you both picked up on - the line in joysticks.xml that ties the stick to the binding file. you've both told me it should read:

<js-named include="Input/Joysticks/Microsoft/sidewinder-force-feedback-2.xml"/>

when I first opened this file it had a huge string of lines like this one, all for different brands and models of sticks. The only one of these that was unique was:

<!-- Default device -->
<js n="0" include="Input/Joysticks/Default/joystick.xml"/>

All the rest took the form of the line you told me I should have. From this I assumed that you had to name the joystick so it would know which binding file to use, and therefore had to replace n=0 with the appropriate joystick name, for the appropriate binding file. Therefore, I now have a few more questions:

1) Why was this line different initially? and.

2) How will joysticks.xml know to make the link between "Microsoft ideWinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick" and /Input/Joysticks/Microsoft/sidewinder-forec-feedback-2.xml? must I delete all other lines from joysticks.xml and leave only this one?

-Aidan.
