Hi,

I have:
- FreeBSD 5.3 (custom kernel, amongst others to enable the
snd_emu10k1-device for my SB Live 5.1.)
- FlightGear 0.9.6 build from ports (I'd like to install 0.9.8, but the
latest PLIB fails to 'make' for some odd reason that is beyond me, so I
guess I'll just have to wait for the ports to get updated)
- plib 1.8.3_2
- libaux 1.0
- libglut 6.0.1
- openal-20040816
- sdl 1.2.7_3,2
- nvidia-driver 1.0.6113_3 for my FX 5700LE

Sound played via OSS or arts works fine under any other program I've
seen so far, but with FlightGear it sounds like the sounds are played
too loud and get distorted because of that.

FlightGear warns me of this too with
"Volume larger than 1.0 in configuration for 'cough', clipping"
This is with the standard C-172. When I try the 737 I get a constant
stream of this error message about the 'whine'-sound.

Apart from that everything sounds choppy too.
I've fiddled with the sounds-section in preferences.xml but with no or
worse effects.

I've read the FAQ regarding sound under Irix, I understand that like
FreeBSD this is a Unix variation, so is this the reason for my
audio-problems? And the solution is then to wait?

Full output at loglevel warn when starting and taking off with a C-172:
Object PanelInstruments not found
Object ControlsGroup not found
Skipping bad material entry params
Tile not found (Ok if initializing)
fcntl: Device not configured
Failed to remove nav-vor-ident sound
Failed to remove nav-vor-ident sound

Volume larger than 1.0 in configuration for 'cough', clipping.

Thank you for any info you might have.

Regards,

        Oliver
