I use nvidia cards, so this advice may or may not apply to you, but the appearance of the word "Mesa" in you glxinfo output doesn't look right. If I use the Mesa OpenGL libs with my nvidia card I get the same crappy frame rates you're getting. I only get good frame rates by installing the latest proprietary drivers from the nvidia website. Maybe the same applies to ATI?


Measa is a software-only emulation for Open-GL. If it says Mesa, it is NOT using
hardware acceleration for the GL library functions.
