..WAG shot in the dark; this is an USB-2 device?  Can it be set up as an
USB-1.1 or lower device to defeat those segfaults?  Would help diagnose
what I suspect is a stick driver problem doing ugly things to X, at
least it kicks down your agp slot speed, and all the way.

..other spasms to try, is shift around IRQ's, hardware and ideas.
(Spasms are those last useless things dying critters ever try. ;o))

..1x. I get that too, dropping from 8x, my agp-slot box is 5 years old,
a 450MHz AMD K6-2 on an Epox MVP3G2, 384MB ram, video is an
128bit Sapphire Radeon 9250 w 128MB vram, changing the FG window 
size between 640x480 to about 1590x1150 has _no_ impact on the
framerate, it's rock steady at 1-5 fps, depending on the texturing. ;o)
