I've noticed something similar under X windows.  For instance, if my
screen saver had been the last graphic program running, it will show
what's in the buffer during FG load before FG initializes or clears the
frame buffer.  Same with the last images from FG if I quit and restart
the program with new prefernces.  And I think I've noticed this more, or
even soley, when the disable splashscreen option is specified.
