Hi Paulo,
I am not sure you are on Win32 OS or Linux or ..
* If you use a Unix like OS then at least some aspects of this mail
might be of interest, please read it
(map parameters, hints for testing the rendering etc). If interested I
could mail you my help file for
FlightGeartools with some other hints.
* If you use Win32 then there might some better help:
I already tried to help another user who had/has problems with Map/Atlas
and Win32.
My offer was:
************************************************************
Hi .. ,
I started with a little tool for Win32 users named FlightGearTools.
The first finished tool is for Map, Atlas and FlightGear Wizard.
A) Give help for installing Map and Atlas under Win32
B) Run the programs from a GUI
a) Create the necessary maps with Map and the necessary parameters
b) Run Atlas with the necessary parameters
c) Run FlightGear and Atlas on one PC
d) Run FlightGear Wizard
It is working on my system very well and I could solve some errors in
the created map by the help of Richard Bytheway.
I will upload this program to AVSIM within the next time but will first
make a better manual-file in *.html format.
You could get all the infos still now by just running FlightGearTools
and clicking on the first upper button "General help for
Map and Atlas". Then a clean text help windows with all necessary infos
pop up, but no pictures and nice format.
Have a look at this page which is somehow outdated as it was for a
help-request from the Atlas/Map developers, this task
is already solved. But it might give you an impression.

So, if you want to get it now then drop an email to me or a message to
the user list.
I will mail it to you (ZIP, ca. 400kB).

This is was I wrote him on some requests via eMail:
************************************************************
1.*ALL* normal downloadable scenery has to go into the folder
[your hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data\Scenery\Terrain
You should *not* place it into another folder for compatibility reasons.
2. If you use FlightGear wizard, FG_SCENERY should point to
[your hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data\Scenery
3. *THEN* you have to create maps with the MAP program *BEFORE* using Atlas.
There will only be the default maps if you do not create your own maps.
4. Map needs parameters to work well.
You have to find out which are best for *your system* due to
performance reasons
Use my FlightGearTools program with the "recommended parameters"
(button)
You must have set the right pathes before in FlightGearTools
The recommended parameter output for *my* system is:
--fg-root=[your hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data
--fg-scenery=[your
hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data\Scenery\Terrain --atlas=[your
hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data\atlas
--aafactor=4 --size=1024 --headless
5. Clean your Atlas directory before new map rendering as I described in
my last mails.
6. Then rendering will take a lot of time if you have much scenery
installed, my PC runs a whole night with that.
I described the way to just render a single scenery. If you do not
understand what I explained, forget about this and
render your whole scenery with map - but it will take a lot of time.
You have to render the whole scenery anyway before using it. Otherwise
you will only have the nav-data displayed in Atlas.
This is a singn for lacking maps.
Recommended testing procedure when trying to find out the best Map
parameters for your system:
You should play with a very small scenery and different Map parameters
when rendering.
Make a backup of your scenery folder [your
hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data\Scenery\Terrain
and create a new empty one. Then copy one subfolder terrain folder (ie
e000n50) into your new created
empty one. In this subfolder (ie e000n50) you find a lot of further
subsubfolders (ie e000n50 .. e009n59). Delete all except
one. This is your "testscenery" which you can render very fast with map
and compare results you get when using different
map parameters.
You have to remember that you have to delete or save (as backup) the
files already rendered which you find in the folder
[your hd]\[YourFlighGearPathesAndFolder]\data\Atlas.
Map only renders a map if there is none of that specific area. If you
already have rendered that area, even playing around
with new parameters does not work. You have to clean that folder.
************************************************************
There might be some delays in my answers due to much work and not being
at home even on weekends.
Hope this helps a little. Give feedback for all users.
Regards
Georg EDDW
