Hi All,
I'm trying to record flights for later replay in a
demo I hope to give showing off Flightgear. I want to
be able to show off the external graphics and provide
a verbal commentary without having to try to fly the
plane at the same time. I'm sure the audience wouldn't
be impressed if I augered in while swearing :)
I'm using the generic protocol for by writing to file
using the following command line options:
--generic=file,out,6,foo.flight,playback
then playing back the file using
--generic=file,in,6,foo.flight,playback --fdm=external
However, when I do this:
- The replay is at about half the speed.
- In between sampling points, the aircraft drifts
leftwards, then snaps back when the next sampling
point is reached, so it performs a sort of zig-zag
down the runway.
I've tried using different sampling rates. If I go
lower (1 or 2), then the simulator jerks from frame to
frame. If I go higher (20, 60) the replay just slows
right down.
So, some question, from the general to the specific:
What other methods have people used for replay in the
past ? The docs mention using "native" I/O but I
haven't managed to get that to work.
Has anyone else used the playback.xml generic protocol
for replay?
If so, has the quality been good enough for demo (i.e.
almost indistinguishable from normal flight)?
What sampling rate would people recommend?
Thanks in advance for all the help.
-Stuart
