Thanks all! Looks like some of the keys have changed since the docs were written. Still and all, it looks like I'll wait to get a USB joystick. To me the keyboard controls are just whack. I can't keep it in a straight line or level attitude to save my life, either on the ground or in the short time I got above the runway. The response seems delayed and then extreme. I know finesse rules in flight sims, but it's beyond my abilty to pre-react to the extreme delayed response once it happens. maybe a LOT more practice.....

I am excited to try Flight gear, and I can get as far as the engine of the
cessna running at idle on the SFO runway, but nothing I try to do seems to
work. The turn and bank indicator is rocking back and forth as I sit there
idling, as if some sort of wierd crosswind is going on. I think I have
figured out that if I start with numlock on, I have to turn it off, then
back on to get it to read the keyboard at all. Then, it will start to roll
down the runway with a press of the 9 key, but engine speed doesn't pick up at all, no matter how long I hold it pressed or keep intermittantly pressing
it. At the same time, the plane starts to drift to the left, and the turn
and bank shows a hard left bank. I have to hold steady on the 6 key and the ". " key to keep it from spinning around to the left. That still doesn't get
me going down the runway to a takeoff. Am I missing something here? Here's
the specs:

Dell Dimension 8400 (yes, I've read about Dell issues), standard Keyboard
Windows WP SP2
Pentium IV 3.6 Ghz, 1Gb RAM, 19" CRT.
256Mb NVidia 6800 GTO (I know about the GTO also)
Standard FG install from installer.
Cessna 182 2-D, default JSB sim

Any suggestioons for a noob would be welcome. I have flown Pro Pilot and
Microsoft FS 1998 without major problems

Thanks!

if you are flying with the keyboard, you can increase/decrease engines
with page up and page down. rudder controls are on the 0 and enter of
the numeric keypad. all surfaces center with 5. you can use [ and ]
for flaps.

The rocking you see is normal... so is the drift to the left. correct
for it with the rudder.

you can also fly with the mouse. right click puts your mouse into fly
mode. right click again and you can use the mouse to look around the
cockpit. a third right click brings you back to default mouse.

use V to change views. the cockpit is also clickable. use C (or
ctrl-C) to display the clickable spots on the panel.

happy flying
