I'm not sure if this will help at all, but typically (if you have an ATI or nVidia video card and possibly others) you will want to go to the respective graphics chip set manufacturer web site and download the latest drivers from there. Microsoft will give you direct3d, but FlightGear runs on opengl which is something entirely different. FlightGear uses opengl because it is supported on windows, mac, freebsd, linux, sgi, solaris, and just about every other moderatly popular platform.
