Try `fgfs --fg-root=/path/to/fgroot`.

I wasn't meaning the part about gcc.  He had a problem with Mesa's libs
not working.  He forced the use of the XFree86 GL libs, and it fixed his
problem.  Use `ldd` to see which GL libs are being used by FlightGear.
Err...actually, can you get any of the plib examples to work?  They are
a lot less complicated and would serve as better test apps.
