I wouldn't make a too big deal about this, these were quite monolithic
parts.. I have not noticed one inconsistency or a crash or anything..
mandrake isn't very different from mandrake.. certainly not on fundamental
libs..

I've tried that, 7.1 actually, I installed kde2.2 and it crashed right away.
The installation was very smooth, but the system just didn't stroke with the
way I liked to work with my pc.. way too much indirect control, or at least
that's what I felt.. I don't really feel at ease on a non-redhat system.. All
I really need is a good, speedy (500k, every time! :) and big rpm resource,
which I have found at mandrake cooker!..

I never had compiler issues, it turned out to be a coding "bug" in mesa
libs..

Jep, I know.. but it's 1) expensive 2) not having open-sourced drivers.. I
know the second argument isn't really a good argument, but it's still a
show-stopper to me..

Propably somewhere in the neat future.. first I've gotta get rid of this
pentium II 266.. ;)

the best solutions are the simplest ones, but you cam't always turn that
around.. :)
