I do not know the model parameters of the carrier, but, from real-world experience, the approach path to the landing area is about 4 degrees to the left of the actual ship's course (keel) through the water. If there is wind in the operating area, the carrier steers a course to have the wind "straight down the angle (deck landing area)." In calm conditions, the carrier "makes" its own wind (steer so the wind is straight down the ship's axis, or 4 degrees to right of the angle deck). There you have it. You see, the life of the carrier pilot (and flight crewmember) is...interesting to say the least. 'Specially at night. Or...maybe the model has a quirk? Let us know how it resolves.
