When I was in the RAF Stationed at Thorney Island - an old Navigator
Training School - I flew on navigational Final Test Flight Examination
as Flight Instrumentation Engineer. An 8hour flight in a Vickers
Varsity Thorney to Gibralter and back. Part of the navigation exercise
to determine position and thus prove location by logging Lighthouses
throughout the flight was an imperative to successfully passing out from
the course. Each Lighthouse had a different (Morse Code I think)
sequence of flashing lights I also believe there were static beacons as
well as lighthouses.
