Hi Arnt
Unfortunately the box is loaner... I can get away with putting a bigger HDD in, but not playing with the CPU... I am making good progress on saving for a 939/athalon system.

.._which_ "P1-166"? If it's a socket 7 with split voltages, you'll be
able to run an AMD k6-IIi+ at 550MHz, these are rare but good for at
least 650MHz, they were meant for a premature laptop market.

..you're much more likely to find a k6-II 450MHz, these are
_thrown_ your way if you know where and what to ask for.

..if you're running a single voltage socket 7, you're either soldering
in a wee DIY split voltage kit, or you're making do with a late "IBM
6x86MX PR266" and playing with all kindsa weird settings and
raising steam off the cpu cooler. ;o) _Google_.

..also consider replacing the guts of your box, a lot of the
AMD k6-II 450MHz came on AT system boards.

Scenarios always come in sets of three:
best case, worst case, and just in case.
