Hi,
I also run 098a and first time I tried the Nimitz at KSFO had the same thing (Nimitz was sailing into down town SF before I got lined up). I can confirm though;

1) The Nitimtz carrier deck is not solid under 098 (I think the solid deck version was first introduced in 099)

2) The red T's show the approach and glide path for a landing

I shifted the Nimitz into my local harbour and ran a few successful "touch and go" approaches.

Cheers

thanks for the help. I did it and the nimitz appeared.

2 odd things thought (FGFS 0.9.8, 10.3.9)

1. There were a series of red T's in the air leading straight to the
nimitz flight deck.

2. by the time I got lined up to the nimitz, it was sailing into KSFO
past the end of the runways and I dropped throught the deck onto
terrafirma.

There are intel Macs in the stores now, but not all model lines
have the new chip yet.

Were you careful to leave in the angled brackets when you removed the
comments in preferences.xml?

IOW did <!-- scenario>nimitz_demo</scenario -->
become  <scenario>nimitz_demo</scenario>        ?
