The nearest airport to Everest is Kathmandu Tribhuvan, ID VNKT.  
I can't remember the exact heading but IIRC it's only a little 
north of East.

Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse are identifiable, with Everest being 
represented a bit better than the other two (I think it's about 
1000ft low, judging by the fly-overs I've done).  The khumbu 
glacier isn't very well represented, last time I looked but when 
you consider the range of elevations, combined with the 
resolution of the elevation data that's not too surprising.

I've always found the entire region (above 20k ft) covered in 
snow, so it seems that the land cover data FG uses is correct 
here - no need to use winter textures;)
