Hi, I am not an expert on this, but a good start could be to read the documentation, available e.g. in the source archive but also on the wiki now I think, and to look at already existing aircraft in FlightGear. That is what I did and from that I have managed to create a FlightGear model of a balloon and almost one of the airship Hindenburg. (No, it doesn't work properly yet..)
