Hi Martin... no apologies for the english..

... ok.... understandably an empty autosave.xml will cause a problem... try copying the prefernces.xml to that location and try it. there is a possibility that the error is not related to the autosave.xml but the next step in the loading process.... and that the autosave error message is not fatal but the next one is with out even giving a message more meaningful than "main loop aborting"

if copying the preferences.xml does't work reply with the specs of your hardware, Processor/memory/video card& VRAM

Yes, this is what I've already tried. To be more precise, there was no
autosave.xml file available (I got the error message the first time I started
the program so there has never been created such a file). Naive as I am, I
created an empty autosave.xml but as you can imagine, this was not a good
idea.

(oh, and sorry for my "english" ;) )
