Just by the next paragraph where you mention cyg but hadn't before I am assuming you are using Cygwin. If I am wrong ignore this but if I am right please see the thread in the archives with the subject: Re: [Flightgear-users] Getting an OpenAL where when ending inCygwin > I proceeded to build openal ./configure, make, etc. But SimGear still > complains. I am using /usr/local/source for all builds and cyg is > installed to D:\. As a quick response I will tell you that you need to follow the instructions for compiling found at: http://www.flightgear.org/Docs/Tutorials/fg_cygwin/fgfs_cygwin.htm This will tell you how to getting FlightGear compiled and installed and running under Cygwin using a precompiled version of Openal which can be found on the web and tell you where to find it. I noticed an error when exiting from FlightGear which was caused by the OpenAL precompiled version - just annoying and not causing a problem - at which point I wanted to compile my own and got into compile issues with OpenAL. If you will read the thread mentioned above you will find full instructions on how to get OpenAL to compile and then to get SimGear and FlightGear to work with it as well plus patches.
