If your on a mac which i believe you are, Just plug it in to your computer, start flight gear like usual, then once its finnished loading i just clicked on flightgear in the upper left corner and clicked on preferences the there should be a joystick button, click on it and make sure that it assigned your device. then click okay and you should be set.
