Hi,

I load the joystick definition from the $FGFSBASE/joysticks.xml file like 
this:

<PropertyList>
         <js n="0" include="Input/Joysticks/Saitek/my_X36.xml"/>
         <js-named/> <!-- dummy to keep SimGear happy -->
</PropertyList>

I don't know how to do it from the command line.

You have set the magnetos/ignition switch to 'both' for each engine, right?
(And followed any aircraft specific startup sequence, see e.g. the
Spitfire.)
