This is not the update rate, but the maximum age for a METAR sets to be 
considered
at all. Sets older than that are dropped. The update rate isn't 
configurable.

No. METAR weather is updated at least once every 15 minutes. If the nearest
station has changed , it's updated within the next minute. Of course, if 
you have
set metar-max-age-min to a small value, then many data sets will be dropped
and you'll see *less* weather changes.
