It seems NVidia has more developers working on Linux now, for quite some 
time there seemed to be only Christian Zander and kernel changes kept 
him a very busy man. A new kernel would throw up some incompaibility bug 
that needed a fix pretty quickly.
A follow-up to the kerneltrap article says it's fixed in 1.0-9625 which 
I am currently running with 1.0-9626 just waiting to be installed when I 
get around to rebooting.
