Right, so, you have to have both OpenAL installed (as it says in
the file README.OpenAL) and freealut installed (which used to be
covered by OpenAL, but not anymore; it *should* say that in
README.OpenAL, but doesn't).

Then you didn't get a full CVS checkout then; I'm staring at the
