No need to search, when logged in to phpBB (and other forum software I'm
sure) there is a handy little link called "View posts since last visit".

My local robotics club also uses phpBB and has RSS feeds enabled so I can
use Firefox's Live Bookmark feature to keep track of new postings.

There are advantages to both lists and forums, no doubt about that.
