1. After managing to compile and install Flightgear I notice a problem
with framerate. Actually, the first time that I installed it (through
the SDL rpm) it performed smoothly, no problem with framerate. I removed
the package. Later on, I reinstalled it again (SDL rpm), and then I got
a really bad frame rate: something like 1 frame every 3 seconds or so. I
removed the package again. When I finally managed to compile it (with
sdl enabled), I started runnning the compiled version which has the same
problem: less than 1 frame per second. What can be the problem?
I would double check your opengl drivers. Perhaps try reinstalling them
again in case some intermediate update has returned you to the default
software only drivers?
2. Furthermore I've not managed to install the joystick. I've proceeded
as stated in the manual, but the dmesg command is negative: I assume the
system is not detecting it, right?. Any known problems with sidewinder
USB joysticks?
I would think that if the joystick was working, you should at least see some
acknowledgement in /var/log/messages that a usb device was plugged into the
system ... even if you didn't have the specific driver for that usb device.
For what it's worth I just got my cell phone to work as a dialup modem on
Fedora Core 6 ... I've got a really old Nokia 6610 and found a usb adapter
cable for it on ebay for $0.99 ... I figured at that price I'd take the risk
and see if I could get it working ... I only get 9600 baud since i'm not
using my provider as the isp, but I can live with that for now ... if
there's a tie into your original question it would be that even with this
device, my FC 6 system noticed the new usb device, loaded the right driver,
auto-loaded the usb/serial driver and away we went ...
If you get no action at all with your usb device, I'd (a) double check the
device/cable is working ok and (b) make sure all the hotplug usb stuff is
installed and working correctly on my system ... maybe there is another
package or two that needs to be installed?
