Although lots of reasons seem to exist for jitter, skip-slip, etc. one I found on my system happens when there is very little RAM left (I think in my case it was sky-blend eating it). When available RAM is low, my sim (& system) became very slow & generally unresponsive as the op system started to swap to disk to find memory. Most of my flights with the "eye candy" I am using seem to consume around 500 megs (with no sky-blend). With sky-blend enabled in the .fgfsrc file RAM usage continued to grow to ridiculous levels.
