Steve,
I'm new here myself. With my system I have to run in windowed (not game) 
mode. In game mode I get either 1 fps, or the view is off center, as if 
I'm only seeing part of the scene. In window mode everything runs 
nicely. Note that you can select advanced option of Full Screen then it 
is almost the same as game mode, except for the Windows task bar (but 
you can hide that).
Have you tried windowed mode? What about other screen resolutions?
