I have tried www.fraps.com and taksi.sourceforge.net The free version of fraps records 30 seconds max and has the label "www.fraps.com" inserted in the video. It works better than taksi, in my experience. taksi is somewhat unpredictable regarding which application it "hooks up" to record.
I have recorded some flightgear and Combat Simulation project (a free flight simulator with two combat planes) videos with different settings and I was happy with the last ones I recorded. I tried to "youtube" one of them, but there was a problem with the codecs, so they couldn't convert it. I guess any desktop recorder slows down the system. If you have a very powerful system, maybe this will go unnoticed, but I've indeed had "slow downs" while recording. Please let us know what you find out.
