I've received numerous emails since yesterday evening just checking in with
me to make sure I and my family are all ok after yesterday's major bridge
collapse in Minneapolis. I want to thank everyone for their concern and let
you all know collectively that I and my family are all ok. So far I haven't
heard of any connections to anyone I know or work with that were hurt. We
share all your concern for those that were directly involved, or hurt, and
for all those with family members or friends that are still unaccounted for.
This bridge is very close to where I work. I take this highway to my
university job every day, coming in from the north side, but I take the last
exit before the bridge. This is a major artery though the city and any time
we go anywhere on the south side of the city, we cross this bridge (i.e.
going to the airport, the mall of america, or other events and activities.)
My wife's cousin also works at the university of minnesota and she drove
over the bridge just 6 minutes before the collapse. I and my family drove
over it the evening before and another of my wife's cousins and his 3 kids
drove over that morning. 2 days before my wife and her running club did a
workout directly under this bridge. Originally their plan was to do this
workout on the day of the collapse and they could have easily been under
there taking advantage of the shade and getting ready to run. So we
consider ourselves very fortunate, but our thoughts and prayers go out for
all those that are more directly involved as well as all the rescue and
recovery workers.
