It has a decent frame rate so is controllable now. Unfortunately, this was achieved by not having the buildings and the clouds.
Flightgear flies through scenery already on disk and needs not stream anything. The view is therefore crisp and complete, such as it is. Using terrasync, one can stream in the next area. This is sometimes a lot of fun when that island appears out of nowhere with the destination airport :-) Weather changes on route are just as miraculous. GE streams everything live so has bandwidth problems. The view is blurred until it finishes coming in. A fast plane might never see the light. All this streaming has to be multithreaded with the simulator's threads. So the building and clouds are sacrificed to get a high enough frame rate. As I have said, I would love to see the technologies and object databases combined to produce realistic flight (FG), scenery (GE), figures (both). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace.
