The name detection thing and the registry messages are "normal" for FG and
Windows, for right now. There is a patch going in to fix it, I think, but it's
nothing to worry about.

The correct format for the joysticks.xml file to "manually" point to your
preferred bindings file is:
<js n="0" include="Input/Joysticks/Logitech/extreme-3d-pro.xml"/>

 (Or whatever the correct path to the bindings file is.)

Subject: [Flightgear-users] Joystick on Vista (Logitech Extreme 3d Pro)

Yes, I know, my first problem is Vista, or at least Windows, but the
big beefy machine with the huge flat screen display needs to be
Windows for my clients, and I don't want to dual boot into Linux just
to see what FlightGear does with the graphics card.

1.9.1b from the binaries just downloaded from flightgear.org. Logitech
Extreme 3d Pro joystick. Started using the installation icon put on my
desktop.

When I run FlightGear, Joystick information shows me "Microsoft
PC-joystick driver", I've also got a console window that popped up
that says "WARNING: JS: Failed to read joystick name from registry".

So the Logitech isn't getting auto-detected.

When I either copy Input/Joysticks/extreme-3d-pro.xml into
Input/Default/joystick.xml or change Input\Default\joystick.xml to have
the

<js-named=~Input/Joysticks/extreme3d-pro.xml~/>

line (also tried with quotes instead of tilde), FlightGear begins to
startup, and then exits.

>From this it seems like there are two possible solutions:

1. There's a registry setting I need to be making.
2. Something in the extreme-3d-pro.xml doesn't agree with the
   current FlightGear (yes, I've made sure it appears to validate with
   Perl's XML parser).

Thanks!

Dan
