Hi Sasha, >> since this is a single-user machine.
So is mine, and agree most things are 'better' installed in a 'global' fashion, be it /usr or /usr/local... But when there is a 'conflict', like between git-sg and cvs-sg, then I do like to keep them REALLY separate. You often read here and on the development board, of 'troubles' some have with some OLD installation hanging around... And as a programmer, I like to be able to try certain changes without 'breaking' being able to build, run the normal application... so usually have multiple instances - ~/fg1, fg2, fg3, fg4, etc... So I definitely want the things I change, experiment with, modify, to only be installed 'locally', until tested, checked, and submitted... I guess each to their own needs... >> Slackware (11.0 at least) does not come by default >> with SUDO installed/enabled, nor does it use >> APT or a comparable Debian-like package/dependency >> manager. Ok, thanks for that information, and remind me not to get 'Slackware' ;=)) My Ubuntu is for really lazy (slack!?) people like me ;=)) where apt-get handles _ALL_ the dependencies. I guess I would be lost if I had to do all that myself! >> deal with vmap1 and/or otherwise more highly detailed >> topographic data? Is it limited to 3-arcsec or >> 30-arcsec data, or *could* I attempt to build more >> detailed scenery than is recomended, using vmap1 >> and/or 1-arcsec data? As far as I am aware the TG tools will handle most forms of 'raw' data, and you should 'shout' if you find some that is not! I am presently waiting for my dem.cxx patch to be added to the git TG repository, to allow you to use the Canadian CDED1 0.75 arcsec data - demchop and hgtchop presently only allows for integer arcsec values, 1, 3, 30... And remember, the mapserver is an alternative way to get land use data, v0, v1, etc :- http://mapserver.flightgear.org/download.psp I too hope, as time moves on, there is a central repository for enhanced scenery, so that not only can we enjoy it privately, but it becomes publicly available for others. The site :- http://www.custom-scenery.org/ has some of this in place already... and particularly for shared models :- http://scenemodels.flightgear.org/ >> Is this mailing-list accepting subscriptions? Yeah, sure is... it is open... >> Should I subscribe?
