The route manager you speak of is one of the "more fictitious built in
Flightgear autopilot features." 

While the KAP140 is more realistic from a pilot point of view, I often
want the autopilot to fly a precise profile for test so I'll "remove"
the kap140, thus restoring the "more fictitious built-in Flightgear
autopilot." 

This is done by using a text editor to remove these lines from the
c17cp-set.xml file:

    <autopilot>
      <path>Aircraft/c172p/Systems/KAP140.xml</path>
    </autopilot>
