Switched from Jaunty to Karmic and besides sound everything else stopped working as well (sidenote:I think it's not Karmic/Jauntys fault but the combination of components). Then, after having jumped into the hassle of installing Gentoo, then cvs/svn upping fgfs/simgear/osg again, it now runs smoothly like it never did before; sound returned too.
