Well, at long last I think I've mapped a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro properly. For the last few months every moment of the game was multiplied by the 'what's it take to fly like a plane?' bug. Oh, I know- it's not supposed to fly like a _game_ by I shouldn't have to be 20 degrees forward, just to hold the nose level, more if the throttle's high. I've flown before: this was unnatural, without any nose-trim.
The problem was in the mapping of the buttons on top. The 'hat' was perfect, but the two pair of 'trim' buttons were odd; lean-mixture on one, and nose-up on it's opposite. Several times I stalled the engine, just trying to work it out. Now this joystick makes use of the "unix" and "windows" tokens. That might have been the error before...that, and the code had changed a bit since it was envisioned. I now have flaps and elevator trim on those buttons, a landing gear toggle and brakes, too. Now, playing the simulator is a lot more realistic; not to mention fun. Where do I go to submit this, anyway? The next step is in aircraft. Almost NONE of the models look odd in Linux since the last software revision! GoodOnYa, guys! Now to a really, really stupid sounding question. How do I release the brakes on a DeHavilland Beaver DH2(w)? Throttle's at max, but no move! There's not even a button/lever/handle anywhere. PulseAudio's giving me fits just now; it's a PA bug, but some programs exit without ever returning the window back to 2D. And it really likes FG! About 3/4 times it locks. No matter- it's worth it! And all that Thanksgiving time and no one had any wisecracks about my attempt to model all the Flying Tigers?
