I don't know about Ubuntu Super Os, but in standard Ubuntu 9.10 I had no trouble via Synaptics. And yesterday I found an easier way to install the latest FlightGear version (if you are running Ubuntu 10.04). I have two machines with 10.04, but I haven't tried to install this way yet.
