Hi Chris, Not as well as I would have liked, unfortunately.
They work very well on the images on the Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaglyph_image The images on this page really have depth and "feel" quite realistic, particularly when the images are large and fill the entire screen. On FlightGear, however, it is difficult to bring the two components of the image into focus, mainly when the object is far away. For example, from the cockpit of my favourite aircraft (the Beechcraft 1900D), the switches and knobs on the console have depth and the cockpit has size. On the other hand, the white dashed line on the runway diverges into two dashed lines further away. I thought I could improve the realism by tweaking the OSG settings. I have a 22" monitor, so I grabbed a tape measure and came up with: export OSG_STEREO=ON export OSG_STEREO_MODE=ANAGLYPHIC export OSG_SCREEN_DISTANCE=0.7 export OSG_EYE_SEPARATION=0.06 export OSG_SCREEN_HEIGHT=0.296 export OSG_SCREEN_WIDTH=0.470 ...but this made very little difference. I found a darkened room helped, because it reduced distractions that changed the eye's focus. Sitting slightly closer to the screen helped for similar reasons, because the display fills my field of view. I think the problem is getting the anaglyph colour separations to match the "shade" of the red-cyan glasses. Unless there is a good match the glasses will not fully obscure each image from the "other" eye. BTW, the FlightGear wiki describes warns against prolonged use of anaglyph glasses, and Wikipedia contains the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binocular_rivalry I can confirm that, after using the anaglyph glasses for some time, my eyes feel as though they are about to depart in opposite directions. The left (red) eye in particular takes 10-20 seconds to feel completely normal again.
