What does 'date --utc' tell you? According to your string you are on Central 
Daylight Time which is UTC - 5 hours. 08:00 + 5 hours = 13:00, so UTC is 
correct. FlightGear adjusts clock time to the location your aircraft is at in 
the world, not the location of your desk.
