Can someone with a lot less rusty C skill and more familiar with the
code such as that found in ftfile.c give me a hint as how flow-expire
will remove files when max bytes (-E) ie set? I noticed that flow
files are not deleted as regularly as I was expecting, but much more
sporadically.

In my case, presume about 100 GB of flows as the max byte limit and
each flow file is between 2.5 and 5 GB. I would think that every few
flow files old ones would be removed, but that doesn't appear to be
the case. It seems that the calculation of when to remove is not as
precise as occurring during every new flow file or two or three.
