*Nix typically means UNIX based, meaning
any linux platform (CentOS-Red Hat-Fedorra etc etc). It CANNOT operate on
windows, which is the answer to your 2nd question – it does
NOT run on windows. Your best bet is to find a computer/server
anda guy who knows linux and some knowledge of routers, and head over to
the tutorial and read it all, its very good and explains just about everything
