How odd. I had added a symlink for /bin/bash, and configure found that first and used bash as $SHELL instead of ksh or /bin/sh. I took that out and no more weird parsing errors of convoluted but clearly syntactically correct code in configure. And no trouble building 0.68.4 on NetBSD 3.0.
