Maybe your dream can come true?

I suggest to have only two build enviroments:

1. Recent makefiles (used for all *nix platforms and also mingw, remove
separate Makefile.mingw and use standard ones under msys works just fine)

2. CMake system from which the IDE projects would be generated for the
release package in similar way as "configure" script is generated by
autoconf. Before distribution only those IDE projects would be generated
which can be tested by the developers (probably a few versions of VC,
XCode, maybe code::blocks...) Other could be generated by the user with
cmake on its own risk.

In such a way only standard makefiles and cmake lists have to be updated.
