Using SVN r7704, the compose key doesn't do anything useful. It does
produce international characters, but nothing like it should, according to
the documentation. For example, RightCtrl+a produces Ê, RightCtrl+"'"+e
produces a question mark.

This is Kubuntu 10.04 using de_DE.UTF-8 locale. It happens in 32bit and
64bit builds. Test application is fluid.

By the way, isn't RightCtrl an unfortunate choice for a compose key? Many
laptops don't have it. RightAlt (== AltGr on some layouts) should be
available everywhere, you'd just have to make sure you don't step on
native AltGr-key combos. Additionally, it would be the key of least
surprise regarding special characters.
